Madras Nalla Madras

A 1-day trip that traces the origin of Madras through its earliest buildings.

Madras The name that takes us back several decades and brings cherished memories back to life. From a city that once had minimal existence surrounding the Fort St. George, Madras has now evolved into an ever-busy Chennai – a hotspot for business, industry, and technology. Despite this phenomenal transformation, we are still in love with our Margazhi kolams, filter coffee, and Marina Beach. We still retain our multicultural fabric – embracing and celebrating people of all walks of life, religion, and color. Aren’t we mighty proud of “Namma Chennai?” We sure are! But is that all there is to it?

As they say “Big things have small beginnings,” we at Heritage Inspired were curious to know about the beginnings of Madras. Our quest to find out more about the city took us back to the 15th century Madras. How do we get to know a city from so long ago? – Through its earliest buildings, of course. For Chennai, it was the churches built by foreigners – Jews, Armenians, Portuguese, British and a few others who came looking for prosperity through trade. Our research gradually took shape and we have unearthed a treasure trove of information, which we are delighted to share with you in the form of a well-curated 1-day tour called “MADRAS Nalla MADRAS”.

This tour is led by Prof. Dr. Radha Saraswathy and is sure to be an eye-opener for us, the real Madrasis. What are you waiting for? Do hop on with us and get to know more about the origin of Madras, the city we all love!
